Man charged with murder, child cruelty in death case

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A Thomasville man has been charged with murder in connection to the death of his 9-month-old daughter.

Damien Holloway, 21, was arrested and charged with murder and cruelty to a child Thursday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the daughter, Madelyn died from a 'traumatic closed head injury' on February 2, 2014.

Officers took him into custody around 5 p.m. He was booked into the Thomas County Jail.

"I just want to know the truth of what happened, I just want to know," said mother Jessica Holloway.

Jessica Holloway took her time Friday tying a bow on the book that holds her most prized possessions, memories of her daughter Madelyn. She showed pictures and talked about losing her daughter who brought so much joy to her life, and the arrest of her husband accused of the crime.

"Yesterday afternoon based on the medical reports as well as another interview that was done, we were able to go ahead and make an arrest," said Steve Turner with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. "It is believed that he caused injuries to the child that eventually led to the child's death."

While the arrest won't bring Brooke back, it's a step towards closure, and the child's mother plans to hang on to the things that were once dear to her daughter.

Jessica said she loves her husband, but may never forgive him. She said her main concern is living life for her daughter that never got the chance.
