VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -  The Valdosta-Lowndes County chamber is helping South Georgia businesses save money on workers compensation premiums.

The chamber is part of the state-run program called "DRUGS DON"T WORK," which is being sponsored locally by PeaceWay Counseling and Mediation Services in Valdosta.

The chamber sends out training material to businesses about how to create a drug free workplace, and upon completion of the training the business can save 7.5% percent on their workers comp premiums. PeaceWay's program director said he's happy to sponsor the program.

"This definitely gives a direct avenue to businesses, industries, in the Valdosta area and the nine county area, to really have a finger on the pulse of those employees who actually need to have substance abuse treatment," said PeaceWay's program director, Tirrell Andrews.

Eight other South Georgia chambers have partnered with the Valdosta-Lowndes county chamber on the program.

Call the Valdosta-Lowndes County chamber at 229-247-8100 for more information about the program.
