JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A Jefferson County man is suing his doctors and a local hospital, alleging that he went in for a circumcision but when he woke up, doctors had amputated part of his genitals.

The medical malpractice lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, July 22 against Princeton Baptist Medical Center, Urology Centers of Alabama, Simon-Williamson Clinic, and two doctors.

In that lawsuit, the man says he went in to the hospital in June for a scheduled circumcision, and was never told that procedure could lead to an amputation. It also says when he woke up, his doctors didn't provide an explanation as to why it was medically necessary to amputate.

The lawsuit alleges the doctors either negligently or wantonly performed the amputation or didn't seek help when complications came up during the surgery.

Princeton Baptist Medical Center released this statement regarding the lawsuit:

"We have reviewed the allegations set forth in the Complaint against Baptist Health System, Inc., and find them to be non-meritorious. We intend to defend all counts aggressively."

The attorneys for Urology Centers of Alabama's, Simon Williamson Clinic and the two doctors in this case released this statement:

"The allegations against the physician are untrue. The claims are without merit. We intended to defend the physicians vigorously. When the facts become known, this will be seen as an unfair attempt to damage the reputations of dedicated physicians and their outstanding clinics with sensational but untrue claims."
