VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - There's a new granite marker highlighting the history of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber unveiled the marker this morning, officially dedicating the magnolia tree at the chamber in honor of the chamber's first 100 presidents.

It was the culmination of the chamber's centennial tree project, a more than one year-long effort to plant 100 trees along St. Augustine and Gornto Roads to celebrate their 100th anniversary and promote business growth.

"To beautify the area and promote the idea that a healthy environment provides fiscal health as well. And, beautiful entrances to the community assist in business development," explained Carla Penny, centennial tree committee chairwoman.

The marker was donated by McLane Funeral Services in Valdosta.
