Southern Veneer catches fire

FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) - A company that makes wood products in Fitzgerald sustained a fire earlier today, but firefighters contained it, and then put it out. The company makes plywood and landscape timbers, three and four inch cores, chips, and bark.

Amy Taylor Chief Financial Officer from Southern Veneer says started around 2:30p.m. in the roof above the dryers.

The plant safety team along with Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County Fire departments quickly put out the fire.

The damage is minimal with most of it from the water used to put out the fire.

Taylor says the plant expects to be back in full operation by tomorrow.
