Valdosta florist helps bring smiles to South Georgia seniors
Susan Mullis helps deliver the flowers to the residents
BROOKS CO., GA (WALB) -
Around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, 135 bouquets of flowers were delivered to the Fellowship assisted living center and nursing home in Brooks County- and so were the smiles.
"They're beautiful flowers. Beautiful," said Sue Scruggs, a resident in the assisted living center, upon receiving her flowers.
"I love 'em. I don't get to see [flowers] very often," said Doug Rice, another resident in the assisted living center.
This is the sixth year The Flower Gallery has participated in Teleflora's "Make Someone Smile" week. The Flowery Gallery gets the vases from TeleFlora, the flowers are donated from various companies, then Susan Mullis and her crew at The Flower Gallery happily distribute the bouquets to a senior living facility in South Georgia.
"It's national 'Make Someone Smile Week.' It's all over the world," explained Susan Mullis, owner of The Flower Gallery.
Henrietta Courson said the bouquet she received made her smile. "It sure did," Courson said. "It's a lovely bouquet." She added that the flowers remind her of being back at her own home. "Sure. It sure does."
For Sue Scruggs, the flowers were a pleasant surprise.
"When you saw them coming down the hallway with the flowers, what were you thinking?" Scruggs replied, saying happily "What is goin' on? There's a beautiful array of flowers all around us."
Mullis and her crew had been working on the bouquets for several days leading up to the delivery. It kept them busy, but Mullis says it's worth it in the end. "To see all the smiles on these people's faces, they're so happy and excited and it really warms your heart," Mullis stated.
And, most importantly, it puts a smile on the residents' faces.
