MITCHELL CO., GA (WALB) -
Every summer Pleasant Grove Baptist Church dedicates a week to help those in need. Normally they venture out of state but this year the project is close to home.
"The repair we are going to do is going to last longer than this week and it's going to be something that the family can appreciate and the neighbors can see and hopefully this leads to more and more good things happening," Charlie Tucker youth leader.
Some of the duties the group plans to complete at this home along Ruben Street include painting.
Christmas also plans on test her fear of heights.
"I'd probably want to help with the roofing because it's something new, so I'm going to try and get on the roof," said Christmas.
The youth group members range in age from 12 to 22. Ryan Wilson is participating in mission project for the first time and says his favorite part is the teamwork.
"Coming together as one, some people have different talents and skills than others and we all get together and get it done," said Wilson.
This mission trip goes beyond lending a hand to a family in need especially when thunder roars.
"Praying for the good lord to help us keep working, you know, we've talked about visiting a nursing home or some of the elderly that are in our church that live in this area and maybe could use somebody to brighten up their day while we are off around here," said tucker
All of the members had smiles on their faces Monday and were excited about making a difference.
