Three teens arrested in Civic Center theft

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -   After two burglaries at the Albany Civic Center in the last month, Albany Police tightened security around the arena......and early this morning three young men were caught climbing over the fence behind it.

17 year olds Juwan Reeves, Exxavier Shealy, and Raekwon Sloan were all charged with theft by taking.  About 12:30 Friday morning APD officers spotted them jumping over the back fence in the rear of the civic center, and officials suspect they were preparing to steal copper metal.

In the last month the Civic Center has been burglarized twice, with two big screen TV's and power equipment worth thousands of dollars stolen.  They increased security to stop the crimes.

Albany Recreation and Parks Deputy Director Darrell Smith said "We've been working with APD and putting some other security measures in place, to make sure people are caught if they try to break in to the Civic Center. "

Officials say they are not sure if the other two Civic Center burglaries are related to the arrest of the three teens this morning, but they are investigating.
