ASHBURN, GA (WALB) -

The Ashburn Police Department and State Fire Marshal's office are investigating what they said is a suspicious fire at 660 Hudson Ave.

Officials said the fire started Thursday afternoon and had two points of origin.

Although the last two arsons in Ashburn were gang related, Police Chief Joe Saxon doesn't believe this fire is the same.

“We had multiple points of origin in that fire which led the fire Marshall's office to believe it was in fact arson. We have no reason to suspect that it was gang related at this time or any type of gang involvement,” said Saxon.

The homeowner, Elaine Whiddon, said the fire was not arson. She says her adult son, who lived in the house, forgot to pay the electric bill and was using a candle for light. She says he left for work and forgot to extinguish the candle.

In May, Ashburn Police said another fire that destroyed a parked car and a house was related to another fire the same week, and a car fire in late March.
