More than 75 wakeboarders are expected to compete in the 5th annual event. This year's festivities are in honor of Ty West. West was born with neuro-muscular scoliosis and Down syndrome. One of the organizers says it's a great way to keep the spirits up for the highly enthusiastic little boy.
"It's just crazy how much we take for granted," Adam Gilbert said. "You know a kid in such bad shape in the medical world, just how much life he has to life and enthusiasm about everything."
The event will be held at Turner Landing Park off McAdams Road starting early Saturday morning. A Wakefest After Dark concert starts at 7 Saturday night at Chehaw.
