How the milkshake machine at Steak 'n Shake forced it to shut down (temporarily)

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Steak 'n Shake in Albany had to be shut down after a problem with the machine that helps make one of the restaurant's staples: milkshakes.

It happened late Tuesday night when the machine caught on fire. Employees were able to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher, but the incident forced the place to close.

There was no immediate word on any smoke damage to the restaurant, that prides itself with iconic Steakburgers and tall milkshakes served in frosted glass.

“The Health Department came in and made sure they are inspected and everything is going to be good for them to prepare their food and serve. They did that and they re-opened today around noon,” said Albany Deputy Fire Chief Ron Rowe. Firefighters say there was no fire damage to the restaurant.

According to employees, Steak 'n Shake successfully opened their doors once again around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
