Boaters take to the water to catch a glimpse of the stranded boat

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Many boaters have gone out to take a look at the stranded boat - some just wanting to catch an up-close glimpse, others hoped they could rescue some of the passengers themselves.

The boaters said the waters are rough and this could be a tough resuce, and having a ship that size stuck on a sandbar is something many of them have never seen before.

Charles Richardson heard about the stranded casino ship, so he rode out to see it for himself.

"So I got out on the sandbar and took some pictures. it was a precarious situation so I just figured I'd snap some photos," he said.

Richarson said with the amount of sand surrounding the ship, he felt it didn't look like there was a way for passengers to get off the ship onto the sand. And the Coastguard said even if they could, it's not safe.

"There were people yelling to me and waving white hankerchiefs. I don't see that anyone was in danger," Richardson said.

Boaters are beginning to speculate how the resuce will go. They said it seems at high tide the waves will push the boat even further onto the sandbar.

"I don't know how that's going to happen. when the tide comes in it looks like it might be a little rough for them," Richardson said.

Many family members and friends of the passengers are waiting for their arrival back.
