74-year-old dies after being rescued from Percy Priest Lake

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Nashville man died after being rescued from Percy Priest Lake on Wednesday.

Witnesses say 74-year-old Gerry Patterson was sitting in a fishing boat and somehow fell out of his chair and into the water near the 7 Points Recreation Area. Witnesses say he never completely went underwater.

People nearby got him out of the water and began administering CPR.

Patterson was taken to Summit Medical Center, where he later died.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, which is investigating the incident, said Patterson was not wearing a life jacket.
