ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Detectives are trying to determine whether the fatal shooting of a man late Tuesday night has any connection to a previous fatal shooting that happened right next door.

Someone called 911 at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday to report a person had been shot at 2340 St. James Dr. in northwest Atlanta. When officers arrived, they found a man in his mid-20s dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

"Right now, we can't establish motive. We do not believe that this was a random act," said Lt. Charles Hampton of the Atlanta Police Department. "We do believe that the victim was the intended target."

Police have not released the name of the victim.

The home is right next door to a home that was the scene of another fatal shooting a little more than two weeks ago. At approximately 11:30 p.m. on June 30, officers found a man in a car parked in front of the home at 2336 St. James Dr. He had been shot to death, police said.

According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office, the victim in the June 30 case is Jeffrey Williams, 34, of Atlanta. He died from a gunshot wound to the head.

"Not sure if it's related," said Hampton. "It's too early to tell. Obviously, we'll get investigators together just to share notes and see if there's any similarities in the two homicides."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477.)
