Books roll into newly renovated downtown library

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The grand opening of the newly renovated downtown library in Albany is just weeks away and the books are finally being moved back in.

"I would say we're moving in an access of 150 thousand items," said Library Director Pauline Abidde.

Workers have finally begun moving books back into the Central Library. They have been in storage for about two years at the Northwest Library branch and the Thronateeska Heritage Center.

Soon the shelves will be full of books again.

"[It's] really looking like a functioning library. A library that is ready to open up to the public. That's very exciting, the thought of that, when we get to that point," said Abidde.

But there's still a lot of work to do before they can open the doors.

"The materials from the temporary location, we'll get those materials inter-filed and taking care of all of the little details, shelf markers and you know, getting all of the numbers and the computers working the way they should," said Abidde.

The grand opening is expected to be held as soon as mid-August.
