Albany State holds active shooter drill

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany State University Police Department and Local Emergency Responders conducted an Active Shooter Mini Training Drill.

The drill happened in Hall 4, with the Active Shooter Team responding to a scenario based incident that would require additional response from other agencies.

The objective is to train and prepare for the full scale drill planned in the Fall.

Campus police used  "Connect 5" to notify the campus community about the drill.

Officers from different agencies including APD's gang Unit, DCP, the Sheriff's Office, Airport Police, Darton Police, and EMS  participated. Albany State University Police Major Cadedria Hill said  "We can never give the officer's enough training, so that they will know what to do if a situation like this occurs."

ASU students posed as victims. This event was videoed  by Albany State's Mass Communications Department.

The campus entrances to Old Radium Springs Road and Highland Avenue, and Dennis Drive and Old Highland Avenue were closed during the drill.

After the drill, law enforcement supervisors reviewed the exercise with officers, and went over ways to improve.
