Police: Three teens attack man, steal bike in armed robbery

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Three teen boys have been arrested after police said they attacked a man and stole his bicycle.

Demonte Acree, 17, Quintavious Hayes, 14, and Earl McCray, 13 were charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, and battery. Investigators said the three teens attacked 28-year-old Nicholas Foster and stole his bicycle.

In a report, Foster told officers he later found the bike at 1301 S. McKinley but was attacked again by the three teens. He said they pointed a handgun at him, stole a ring from his hand, hit him with a stick, and punched him in the face.

Pastor Pearlie Dawson said the lack of family structure and poverty is causing many teens to turn to crime, even at such a young age.

“Our teens are on a rampage right now. They are trying to find themselves, and they are trying to connect with people that they think love them, such as gangs,” said Pastor Pearlie Dawson Seed of Faith Ministry.

The teens are charged as adults because of the gun used in the robbery.

Pastor Dawson says Albany leaders need to find ways to give teens activities, and hope of escaping poverty, or crimes like these will continue.

Armed robbery with a firearm is considered one of Georgia's "Seven Deadly Sins" and requires all parties to be charged as adults. The three teens charged have been placed in the Dougherty County Jail instead of the Juvenile Detention Center.

The teens appeared before a judge Tuesday morning. There was no immediate word on any bond amounts.
