ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Jefferson Street near downtown Albany has been closed for road work at Roosevelt as crews install concrete panels in Jefferson to smooth the transition of the railroad crossing and the pavement.
Detours were put in place around the area while the work is done. Crews said the intersection will be closed to all traffic until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Assistant City Manager Wes Smith said notices have been sent, and detour signs were in place Tuesday.
Drivers are asked to use alternate routes and avoid the intersection. Detour routes will be identified with signage with the following city streets to be used:
If you are north of the intersection and want to travel south, you should access North Jackson Street, which is a one-way southbound city street that is one block east of North Jefferson Street. The last east-west street that can be used to access North Jackson Street before the work area is Residence Avenue.
If you are south of the intersection and want to travel north, you should access North Monroe Street, which is a one-way northbound city street that is one block west of North Jefferson Street. Detour signage will be set at Pine Avenue for motorists to use to access North Monroe Street. The last east-west street that can be used to access North Monroe Street before the blocked intersection is Flint Avenue.
Motorists are advised to use caution, reduce speed and expect delays in the area through Wednesday evening.
