COLUMBUS, GA -

The body of a homeless man was found Tuesday morning on the railroad tracks near Fifth Avenue and 16th Street in Columbus.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan has identified the victim as 62-year-old Benjamin "Bennie" Clay. The victim was hit by a train at around 6:50 a.m., and his body was discovered shortly afterwards by a passing police officer. He was pronounced dead around 7:20 a.m.

Clay suffered multiple abrasions and blunt force trauma to the head, neck and chest.  His bicycle was found down the tracks from where the body was located.

We're told Clay stayed at Tent City on 5th Avenue. Bryan says they are still trying to locate his next of kin.

His body will not be sent for an autopsy; however, a toxicology test will be conducted.
