Progress made to build new multi modal center

Albany is a step closer to getting a new multi modal center.

Commissioners gave the go ahead for a site plan that includes tearing down the current building and rebuilding the station on the corner of the lot on Oglethorpe and South Jackson.

The new layout will add about 50 additional parking spaces for area business, and is a very open and pedestrian friendly set up.

“We would like to take down the old building and build something more efficient something far more attractive something that brings new to the Harlem business district and makes it better,” says Assistant City Manager Wes Smith.

City officials say once they finish an environmental assessment they will be able to start construction in about a year.
