POULAN, GA (WALB) -  In a strange turn of events, a police officer received a thank you letter after giving a citation.

A lot of drivers know: slow down when traveling through Poulan, GA or get a ticket.

Officer Lance Purvis pulled over a man in June for speeding on Hwy 82 in Poulan.

He said he didn't expect to receive a letter in the mail from the man, thanking him for his conduct.

"[The letter was] talkin' about how nice, courteous and respectful I was. Kind of unusual," said Officer Purvis. "We don't get many of those these days. We get more complaints than anything else."

He said this is not the first kind of letter this officer has received after giving someone a ticket, but it was nice for someone to take the time to send it.

Do you think more officers deserve thank you notes? Let us know in the comments.
