ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany resident and veteran Willie Ross says he will go on a hunger strike without better assistance from Veterans Affairs for medical treatment.

Ross said he got fed up with poor customer service and a lack of quality care at the Albany clinic about a year ago and moved his primary care to the VA hospital in Dublin, GA. The Vietnam veteran says he takes multiple medications for heart disease and kidney problems. He said it's difficult for him to travel the two hour drive to the hospital in Dublin. Sometimes, he ends up going to Phoebe Putney Hospital for treatment, but notes that the VA doesn't cover those visits.

"They refused to see me in the clinic I asked if they could they just give me a blooded pressure check, they told me no," Ross said. "I said, 'you all can't even give me a blood pressure check'? No, go to Phoebe or either go to the emergency room in Dublin. I said I can die between here and there."

Ross says that he will start his hunger strike on Monday, July 14th if he doesn't see a turnaround in the quality of service.

Officials at the Albany clinic said they do offer quality service. They also said their facility does not offer emergency care for anyone. The clinic is expected to move to an expanded location at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany later in 2014.
