Methodist Home seeks child care counselor

Looking for a job in child counseling? The Methodist Home is hiring.

On Tuesday, July 22, they will be accepting applications and conducting initial interviews for an FT/PT Child Care Counselor.

This event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and takes place at the Columbus East Career Center, located at Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, Inc.

 The Child Care Counselor provides for the day to day care, nurturing, supervision, and development of the youth assigned.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited:

Providing day to day services to the youth on our campus.

Mentoring youth.

Crisis Management and Intervention.

Medication administration.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a Social Services Field and/or minimum of two years experience working with children.

Must have a valid Georgia Drivers License and eligible for inclusion on TMH's automobile insurance policy.

Ability to communicate well with people in person and over the phone.

Ability to meet and handle the public with tact and poise.

Maintain high level of confidentiality.

Ability to understand and consistently implement policies and procedures of the Agency.

Ability to show sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural difference in the service population

Strong documentation skills.

Experience working with web based computer programs.

 

Essential Functions of the position:

Duties are performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful and potentially aggressive (physical interventions, escorts, etc. to casual and leisurely, in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Ability to successfully complete the Crisis Aggression Limitation Management training program and conduct physical interventions.  Examples:  (1) Escorting a child by the arm to deescalate (2) Support a child's movement to a seated position to the floor or to a chair.

Necessary stamina and temperament to work with children and youth (ages 6-18) who are experiencing crisis and/or emotional and/or behavior disorders.

Schedule may include weekends and/or evenings.

Must be able to transport residents using a 15 passenger van.
