Think twice before leaving your car unattended while its running

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -  Valdosta Police are cautioning people against starting their cars to let the car cool down and then leaving the car unattended.

Around 1:45 Wednesday afternoon, 37 year-old Jessica Hall-Rey, of Valdosta, started her car to let it cool down and then went back inside her house in the 3000 block of Schroer Drive. When she came out about five minutes later, her car was gone.

The car was located a short time later in the 2400 block of Seth Place in Valdosta. Two juveniles, ages 15 and 16, were arrested and charged with stealing the car. They are currently being held in the Thomasville Regional Youth Detention Center.

Valdosta Police Department Lieutenant Aaron Kirk said leaving your car unattended like this is not a good idea. "Typically, we don't encourage people to do that," said Kirk. "Maybe it's a good thing to have another set of keys and lock the door while it's runnin'."

Police are not releasing the names of the juveniles, but have charged the 15 year-old juvenile with two other car thefts in Valdosta that occurred in March.
