Arrest made in Valdosta murder

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Police have arrested a man in connection to a shooting that left his estranged wife, Sharonda James, dead.


Donnaille Lamar James, 40, has been charged with her Malice Murder. Valdosta Police Department Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for James Tuesday afternoon. 


Investigators with the Valdosta Police Department swarmed the South side of the parking lot in the shopping center at the corner of Bemiss and Lakeland Avenue around 9:30 Tuesday morning as they investigated a vehicle believed to be involved in the murder. That vehicle turned out to be Sharonda's minivan, which the two were riding in at the time of the murder.

"Shortly after 7:30, an officer was patrolin' the area, E. Moore Street and North Forrest Street, located an African American female, layin' there at the intersection. Got out with her, found out she had been shot multiple times," explained Valdosta Police Department Lieutenant Aaron Kirk.

Police say Donnaille Lamar James shot his estranged wife, 40 year-old Sharonda James, multiple times after the two got into an argument.

"Wasn't overkill, like she was shot 15 or 20 times, but it was more than once," said Kirk.

Once An ambulance arrived on scene, Sharonda James was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center, where she passed away.

"Not sure how long she was at the hospital before she passed away, but it was a very short time though," Kirk stated.

Some bystanders at the scene of the investigation said that James was pregnant. Kirk said investigators have also heard that, but they will not know for sure until an autopsy is complete.

Donnaille James is currently being held in the Randolph County jail waiting to be extradited back to Lowndes County. He is facing a charge of Malice Murder.

The Valdosta Police Department appreciates all the assistance by the GBI, the Cuthbert Police Department, Cuthbert Probations, and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.
