VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Valdosta Police Department says that about 7:34 this morning, an officer discovered a woman lying on the ground near the intersection of E. Moore Street and N. Forrest Street.

The victim had multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital, but she died.

Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department and Crime Scene Personnel from the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory responded to investigate.

The name of the victim is not being release at this time. There is a person of interest in the case, but their name is not being released at this time.

VPD says that more information will be release as it becomes available.
