VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -  The Valdosta Lowndes County Parks and Rec Authority has been hard at work for several months planning for their fireworks display tonight.

Officials spent most of the day Friday setting everything up and making sure everything was safe and ready for the big show.

"We spend months preparing for this show," said Jessica Catlett, VLPRA public relations coordinator. "We begin our preparation in January or February, so we spend the better part of the year getting ready for this day...this is one of our favorite events of the year because it truly does bring the community together."

The fireworks will start Friday night between 9 and 9:30. The best place to view them will be anywhere along Norman Drive between exit 16 and 18 on I-75.
