ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Lots of South Georgia boaters spent their Fourth of July holiday on the water. Lake Chehaw was full of boaters fishing, tubing and enjoying the sun with their families in celebration of Independence day.

One Albany man tells us he tries to take his family out on the water every year. He says it's a great way to cool off and bring everyone together for the holiday.

"Picked the family up and we went up to the 'blue hole'. Now, we're down the river," said Starrlyn Bruner. "We're going to head back a little later and do a little barbecue and maybe see the fireworks."

For many, the fourth of July means more than just barbecues and fireworks. Several families believe in honoring the military men and women who have served our country.

"I've got a son that's in the military and he fought for our freedom," said Bruner. "We're out here celebrating our freedom. A lot of countries can't do this."

"Freedom and independence," said Juli Bruner. "We have a great country and I'm proud to be an American."
