BACONTON, GA (WALB) -

Baconton celebrated Independence day by holding their 3rd annual Fourth of July Bash.

Residents were invited to the Pecan Festival Grounds Friday for free food, music and family activities.

Mayor Annette Norman says the Fourth of July is a great day to bring the people of the city together for celebration.

"It's so important to us because it's our freedom. We appreciate the veterans of our United States of America. We just want everybody to feel free and come out to celebrate with us," she said.

Mayor Norman says they were expecting around 500 people to attend this year's event.      Fireworks will also sound off at the softball field on Lester Road in Baconton at 9:00 tonight.
