City of Albany is ready for a big 4th of July

Updated:

Dozens of Albany city employees have been working non-stop for the last five or six months to get things in order for today's event. Fireworks coordinator Dale Henry has been involved for 25 years and says every time they throw the celebration he makes sure to order new items to maximize the experience.

"We actually do it for the crowd when they come out, people really love fireworks, we probably out on the biggest show south of Atlanta," Henry said.

But of course fireworks aren't the only attraction tonight. There will be two stages with live bands playing throughout the event, including several different vendors selling everything from food, drinks and sweets to merchandise. Albany Parks and Rec marketing coordinator Kristin Caso says this will be a great family event, kids will get to cool off with misters, slip and slide including bounce house and spending time with animals from Chehaw.

"Its a really great experience an because we've done with city employees we've saved the taxpayers a ton on money. And we're able to provide this to the citizens every year, we're really proud of that," Caso said.

No alcohol, coolers, backpacks or weapons of any sort are allowed on the grounds, security checking visitors as they enter.

Gates open at 3:00 at the Albany Exchange Club Fairgrounds located on 810 South Westover Blvd, tickets are $2 bucks per person or $5 per car, military get in for free with ID
