Shattered glass from the front door of Steel's Jewelry littered the entrance to the store this morning after thieves broke in and stole some jewelry.
"'Bout , we had a call from a concerned citizen that saw suspicious activity around Steel's Jewelry business," said Valdosta Police Department Captain Bobbi McGraw.
The owner of Steel's Jewelry said thankfully most everything in the store was locked up in a safe, but that didn't keep the crooks from getting away empty handed.
"There's several glass cases that contain some type of jewelry that had been shattered," McGraw explained.
The crooks weren't too careful though, as police said they managed to drop some of the items as they were making their getaway.
At the moment, it's unclear exactly how much jewelry was taken because the owner has decided to wait until to do an inventory and he said police have asked him not to comment about what specific items were stolen.
Police now hope surveillance video from the store will lead them to the suspects.
"At this time, we believe there were two persons," McGraw said. "We do not have any descriptions available at this time, however video surveillance within the store itself is being reviewed."
Some of the businesses surrounding the jewelry store said this doesn't make them concerned, but it is a good reminder that it's always important to protect their business.
And Captain McGraw agrees.
"Anything that you consider valuable, we recommend that you do secure it to the highest level that you can. Sometimes having that second or third line of security would work; it would be adeterrentt," McGraw stated.
