Lowndes Co. EMA reminds residents about hurricane preparedness
VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -
As the first named storm of the 2014 hurricane season builds out in the Atlantic Ocean, Lowndes County Emergency Management is reminding residents to be prepared even though the storm isn't expected to impact Georgia.
"Absolutely, you can't be too prepared," stated Paige Dukes, Lowndes County Public Information Officer. "Obviously, you don't want to go out and buy water every time you see a storm somewhere. But, you do want to remain aware of your surroundings."
The last time Lowndes County was impacted by a hurricane or tropical storm was in 2006. Residents can sign up for "Code Red", the county's emergency alert system, by visiting www.lowndescounty.com. Residents are also encouraged to download the Georgia Emergency Management mobile apphttp://www.ready.ga.gov/mobileapp.
