2 homeless after Doerun duplex blaze

A smoke alarm is credited with saving the lives of two people late Tuesday night when a fire ripped through a Doerun duplex.

It happened around 11 o'clock at the Doerun Housing Authority of East Project Street where firefighters found heavy flames shooting from the duplex.

Fire officials tell us a blaze broke out in one unit and quickly spread to the next. A man asleep in the unit where the fire started awoke to the sound of a smoke detector and escaped  as well as his next door neighbor.

Both units were destroyed and the Red Cross is assisting,

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
