ALBANY, GA - (WALB) -

Dougherty County tax officials are bracing for appeals from taxpayers whose tax bills are going up.

The tax office sent out notices recently.

A lot of bills will go up because of new higher property evaluations.

Owners can appeal if they feel their property wasn't evaluated correctly.

"You file an appeal with a board of tax assessors and they decided whether to accept or not accept it," Tax Director Shonna Colley said.

Property owners have 45 days from the time they receive their notice to appeal to the board of tax assessors.

Neither the city of Albany, Dougherty County, Nor the school system plan to raise their tax rates.
