ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany State University is mourning the death of a student is found dead in his apartment. Jarrett Lango's death remains under investigation.

As the shock is wearing off, neighbors are recalling their last moments speaking to him.     Celestine Steele lived across the hall from 22 year-old Jarrett Lango at Hidden Oaks apartments in Albany.

"That was the last time I had seen him on Saturday. Him and his roommates were taking out the trash. And I spoke with him then, encouraged him. He was just getting back from home," she said.

Albany Police did a welfare check at his apartment Sunday evening after he didn't respond to phone calls.   The fire department entered his room, where authorities found Lango unresponsive on the floor.

"The young man is going to be missed. He was the epitome of a good citizen. He conducted himself, he carried himself very, very well," said Steele.

The Albany State University student was a mass communications major and passionate about music.   He was from Atlanta and had recently returned to Albany.

"I encouraged him to do good in school this year and keep up the progress. He was looking really good. And I was very happy to see him back. Very happy to see him back," said Steele.

Grief counselors have been on standby as faculty and students learn of his untimely death.   "It's a pretty critical time, because they're getting a reality check. And they're realizing that they are mortal. Everybody likes to think nothing is going to happen to them. But when a young person dies, it just gets everybody's attention," said ASU Counselor Jennifer King.

That attention is now turning to how Lango died.  The coroner says it could take weeks before they get the autopsy results back, but there were no obvious wounds to the body.

Albany Police say the death remains under investigation.
