GBI: Cordele woman shot boyfriend

CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

Police say Cordele man was hospitalized after he was shot by his girlfriend.

It happened around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 600 block of North Bay Street.

Investigators with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the victim as 50-year-old Thomas Souter, Sr.

He was shot in the chest by his live-in girlfriend, Kimberly Watson. She has been charged with aggravated assault, and was taken into custody late Tuesday afternoon.

A motive was not immediately clear, but agents said the two had an argument before the shooting.

"The evidence we found at the scene indicates it was probably a semi automatic handgun," said GBI Agent Bryan Smith. "We have not gotten a full version of what lead up to what happened here. The victim is still being treated for his injuries."

Investigators collected evidence and interviewed witnesses Tuesday. They believe the incident happened inside and outside the home.

According to a report, after Souter was shot, he went looking for help.

Souter was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.Souter was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. He was admitted for surgery, but his condition was unknown late Tuesday afternoon.
