ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

This morning early voting will get underway in local and state primary runoff races.

Jack Kingston and David Perdue are in the running for U.S. state senate while former City of Decatur school board member Valarie Wilson is up against Alisha Thomas Morgan for state school superintendent elections.

Local elections for the school board district will also take place for Dougherty County.

Ginger Nickerson of the voting registration office says they anticipate that there is going to be a line but because this particular election is a short ballot they hope they can get everyone in and out in a timely manner.

She feels this gives residents a chance to vote without having to wait or be rushed.  Nickerson also wants to remind people even if you aren't able to make it out to the polls you can still participate just by requesting absentee ballot.

"So, we have mailed out almost 1,000 and absentee ballots already we've had maybe 2 or 300 returned currently but there is till time for those ballots to be returned, " Nickerson said.

The doors open at 8:30 Monday morning and will be open till 5 throughout the week excluding the 4th of July.

They are located in downtown Albany at the government center off of Pine Ave, room 220 on the second floor. The early voting period will end on the 18th and the official election day will be the 22nd.
