Police: alcohol use suspected in crash that killed former AU football player

In a report released by the Georgia Department of Public Safety on Monday, all four passengers involved in the car crash that killed former Auburn football player Philip Lutzenkirchen, are suspected of alcohol use.

A test was conducted by officers at the scene of the crash, but those tests are pending at this time.

Funeral arrangements for Lutzenkirchen were announced on Monday. Visitation will start at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta, Ga. A funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m.

According to the Auburn Football Twitter account, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Lassiter High School's football stadium in Marietta.

Officials with the Georgia State Patrol say that 22-year-old Joseph Ian Davis and Lutzenkirchen were killed in an accident, which occurred at 3 a.m. on Sunday.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Upper Springs Road and Lower Springs Road in Troup County in Georgia.

State Patrol officers say that the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe, that Davis was driving, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection. The vehicle then traveled 451 feet out of control through a church yard and overturned several times before coming to a rest on its roof.

Officers stated that Davis was the driver of the car, and Lutzenkirchen was a passenger in the back seat.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene after being partially ejected from the vehicle. Lutzenkirchen was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle.

Officers say that 22-year-old Elizabeth Ann Seton Craig was ejected from the car and was taken to West Georgia Health System in LaGrange.

State Patrol officers say 20-year-old Christian Tanner Case was treated for injuries and was then released.

Many former players, coaches, and fans took to Twitter on Sunday to pay their respects to the former Auburn star.

The former tight end helped guide the Tigers to the 2010 national championship in Arizona.

Lutzenkirchen signed a deal with the St. Louis Rams as a rookie but was released from the team in August 2013.

Lutzenkirchen was a coach at Saint James High School in Montgomery, where he coached Jalen Harris who recently committed to Auburn.
