Neighbors do not recall seeing child allegedly locked in basement for nearly 2 years

BUFORD, GA (CBS46) -

Police said a couple arrested for locking their 13-year-old son in a basement for nearly two years turned themselves into police, Friday.

"There are still some aspects … like church, doctors, dentists, whether any of that actually occurred at this point. Detectives don't think that the victim was taken to any of those functions or doctor's visits," said Corporal Jake Smith with the Gwinnett Police County Department.

Officers said the former Georgia Tech football player and his wife, Recardo and Therian Wimbush, have ten children.

In an arrest warrant obtained by CBS 46 News the parents claim they punished the child because he took the family's DVD player and later did not tell truth about what happened.

The parents also claim the teen molested three of his younger siblings.

Neighbors said they do not recall seeing the 13-year-old during the two-year period.

"They had so many children that I guess it was hard to actually notice that a 13-year-old boy was missing," said Jacqueline Rhone, a neighbor.
