Legendary artist adds a splash of color to Newark renaissance
NEWARK, N.J., June 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The city of Newark is undergoing an urban renaissance, and at the heart of this transformation is a thriving, vibrant visual and performing arts scene. Among those who have taken notice is Peter Max, who designed the cover for the Summer Issue of RADIUS Magazine. Max also penned an essay for the publication, entitled "A Joyful Paradise." The story features a visual retrospective of his career.
Also in the current issue of RADIUS are features on Newark artist Matt Enger, and on Animodules, the city's most celebrated public art project.
Dinner with RADIUS -- the magazine's featured interview -- profiles Nancy Cantor, one of the nation's most admired educators. Cantor became Chancellor of Rutgers University–Newark earlier this year, and believes the creativity, energy and diversity of Newark bodes well for the city's future.
"When you bring together diverse groups," Cantor points out, "with varying experiences, languages, perspectives and passions, that mix takes problem-solving to a whole other level. Diverse groups are more likely to be successful at solving really difficult problems, and tend to be more creative in their approaches."
Finally, what would summer be without a visit to what is arguably the Garden State's finest ice cream store: Nasto's, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Thousands of New Jerseyans still make the pilgrimage to Jefferson Street for a cup or cone of the frozen delicacy that stars on the dessert menus of some of the region's toniest restaurants. In "Birth of the Cool," Andy Clurfeld takes RADIUS readers behind the scenes of this iconic Brick City business.
RADIUS is a glossy, perfect-bound magazine that celebrates the past, present and future of Newark -- with distribution to more than 50,000 homes in the surrounding suburbs (including Short Hills, Livingston, Summit, Morristown and Montclair), as well as several thousand copies in the city itself. The entire issue is available online at www.radius-newark.com.
