Victim named in Colquitt Co. fatal crash

Georgia State Patrol has released the name of a man who was killed in a crash in Colquitt County.

Officials said it happened Thursday around 10 a.m. on Georgia Highway133. Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock was called to the scene.

According to a report from Georgia State Patrol, Xavier Terry, 18, was traveling south on Hwy. 133.

As he attempted to pass a truck, he over-corrected and lost control of the car. It rolled several times into a ditch, and Terry was thrown from the car.

Terry was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

He was also a basketball player who just graduated from Colquitt County High School.

"We're going to Tuscaloosa in July to senior showcase and try to find somewhere for him to play," said Colquitt Co. Coach Andy Harden. "I'm positive we would have found somewhere for Terry to play basketball, but Colquitt County boys basketball program lost a great young man."

Two passengers were also in the car, and survived. Their names have not been released. They were taken to Archbold Hospital and are expected to be okay. Officials said one of the passengers was not wearing a seatbelt.

No charges are expected to be filed in the case.
