ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Yet another evidentiary hearing is going on Thursday morning in Dougherty County Superior Court, as convicted murderer Ray Johnson tries to avoid the death penalty.

He was convicted in 1998 for the brutal murder of  34 year old Angela Sizemore, whom he raped and stabbed 41 times in 1994 in Albany.

Johnson was brought back to Albany for the hearing yesterday by Department of Corrections personnel, and is being held in the Dougherty County jail.

Sizemore's family has waited over 15 years for Johnson to be executed, and after the state executed Marcus Wellons a week ago, they are still confident her killer will be executed.

Johnson was granted another evidentiary hearing in Johnson's appeal, to give defense experts a chance to testify on new DNA evidence.
