Amateur radio fest to take over Moultrie

Amateur radio operators from across the county will be in Moultrie this weekend.

Moultrie Technical College will host the Amateur Radio Relay League's 100th field day celebration.

Displays will show how radio operators provide radio communication during emergencies.

Those operators say even with so many other forms of communication today their work is still important.

"[We] communicate with other amateurs over the air using radio equipment in such they can prove they can communicate in times of disasters or anything that wipes out regular communication," said Andy Clark.

The field day is free and open to the public.

Activities run for 24 hours beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.
