Bar business owner speaks out after break-in

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An angry business owner speaks out after a man steals liquor and damages her business in East Albany.

The owner at The Benchwarmer Bar on Sylvester Road spent all day repairing damage at her business.  She even got some help from customers, but she doesn't understand why anyone would want to cause so much damage.

It happened at 12:55 Tuesday morning when a man walked up to the front door with a shopping cart.  He then repeatedly used a crow bar to knock out the lights in front of the building before using it to shatter the front door. Once inside, the man took four bottles of liquor from the bar and left. The owner says he was inside no more than a minute. She says it's irritating to see someone cause so much destruction to something she owns.

"Everybody in here works hard for their money," said Lisa Huffman, owner. "It's irritating to have someone come in and cause so much destruction, especially since they dropped the liquor bottles around the corner. So they got absolutely nothing by causing all this destruction."

The man didn't even keep the stolen liquor. Huffman says police found the bottles near Johnson Road. She says it cost her $400 to replace the front door. Her customers were kind enough to help her install new lights in front of the building.

Police have not made any arrests. If you think you recognize the man in the video call Crimestoppers at 436-TIPS.
