AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Lightning safety week continues and we've got another harrowing survivor's story.

Laura Lee Bernstein is the Chief Administrative Officer for the city of Americus.

When she was 14 years old and living in South Carolina, she was struck by lightning.

She was on a high school track when the bolt hit.

"It was like today, it wasn't storming or anything. I was stretching on the fence and out of nowhere. It hit the fence I was on, blew me off the fence, melted my shoes, and knocked the wind out of me. I was like," said Laura Lee Bernstein.

Bernstein says she's in a support group that follows victims' experiences called Lightning Strike Electrical Shock Survivors.
