VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta State University is helping the Red Cross fulfill a crucial need during these Summer months...

The university held a blood drive Tuesday afternoon. Students, staff, and members of the community showed up to donate.

"Blood drives during the Summer months are so important because typically, we get a lot of donations from high school and college students," said Claire Bowen, with the American Red Cross donor center in Valdosta. "So, when those get out for the Summer we just usually don't see as many people as we usually do."

To schedule a time to donate blood at a Red Cross center near you, visit www.redcross.org.
