TIFT CO., GA (WALB) -

Lots of families were at Fulwood Park in Tift County to celebrate Juneteenth on Saturday.

There was food and games for everyone, plus some live entertainment.

Organizers say they wanted people to come out and fellowship with one another, and remember the importance of working together.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery.

"The people in Texas did not get this news until 1865 when general granger had to go  into Texas and inform the people that they were free and this happened on june 19th 1865 and that's where it came about," says organizer Ruenette Melton.

This is the first year for the event. Organizers say Juneteenth is one of the oldest holidays.
