ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Volunteers with Mission change spent time helping out the homeless at First United Methodist Church.

Mission Change is giving their "neighbors" the five star treatment. It's part of their  "Shower of Hope" monthly mission.

"We call them our neighbors because they're our friends," said Ladonna Urick, Mission Change Executive Director.

Volunteers cut hair, did manicures, and handed out free toiletries. There was also a mobile shower.  Pamela White proudly showed off her newly painted nails.

"I call today with the Mission Change "Fun Day," said Pamela White.

"Being excited and seeing joy on their faces is what makes our day," said Urick.

White along with others say Mission Change has helped them get back on their feet during hard times.

"Words can't express how I feel about the mission change. I just thank God for them because there are a lot of homeless people out here and they don't have anything and they support us a whole lot," said White.

Others say the organization has helped them get a fresh start.

"They've helped me in many ways," said Jerome Davis. "I'm not on the streets and I have a place where I can really find myself."

Officials say the organization is about building relationships in the community.

"We all have different stories and we're in different places in our life but we all come together at the same time to be able to lean on each other, encourage each other and love each other," said Urick.

Mission Change holds a different mission each month. In July volunteers will host a "Back to School  Supply Drive" for families.  They will also have a benefit concert in August featuring American Idol winner Phillip Phillips. For more information click here.
