Historic former Albany Police Chief Dies



The city of Albany's first African American Police Chief has died.
Washington Long was 85 years old. He died Thursday.
Long was Albany's Police Department  Chief from 1985 to 1996, the  first african american police chief in the city's history.
 He joined APD in 1966, and was a mentor to other young african american officers who joined the force.
Long's funeral is scheduled for  11 Friday morning at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
