ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A former Dougherty County teacher is facing federal child pornography charges.

Brian Brannen appeared in an Albany U.S. District courtroom Friday morning for a detention hearing.

Brannen was charged with one count of child pornography by the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Middle District of Georgia on July 11.

He faces 24 counts of child pornography in Dougherty County.

District Attorney Greg Edwards says his case is being handed to Feds, because they have more jurisdiction in interstate crime. His office is keeping the case open, but putting it on hold

Brannen was fired by the Dougherty County School Board after his arrest.
